Incontinence Supplies for Low Income Individuals

If you have low income and need incontinence supplies, there are a number of places that you can look to for help with your supplies.

1) Medicaid - If you are covered by Medicaid, most state Medicaid programs cover incontinence supplies for low income individuals and families. In fact, there are currently 45 states that provide some coverage for incontinence supplies.

Getting supplies through you Medicaid plan can be quite easy, but there are a couple of requirements that you must meet in order to be eligible.

  • You must be enrolled in a Medicaid program that provides coverage for incontinence supplies.
  • Your doctor must provide a diagnosis for incontinence. Your supplies will only be covered by Medicaid if the supplies you need are medically necessary.

2) Diaper Banks - These are charitable organizations that provide diapers and other incontinence supplies for low income individuals. In most cases, the supplies from diaper banks are free to low income individuals and families. Keep in mind that the diaper bank may require proof of low-income in order to receive supplies. Proof could be in the form of Medicaid enrollment, food stamp recipient, a prescription showing a need for the supplies, or other information.

The Simon Foundation for Continence provides educational resources about incontinence and how to best manage it. They also offer a directory of diaper banks that supply incontinence products for adults.

3) Family Caregiver Grants - Family caregiver grants are for caregivers who need assistance in caring for an aging family member. To learn more about caregiver grants, visit the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Eligibility for participation in caregiver grants is provided by each state's Department of Health and Human Services. It is recommended to contact your local department for requirements in your area and to see what grants are available to you.
